Chackochan and Salimma of Nelupura home stay is your quintessential hosts. Belonging to a Syrian Christian community based at Moncompu in Allapuzha district for five generations now. Being a prominent family of the place, the local Catholic Church was built by their grandparents in the year1958. Though ancestors were basically farmers mostly cultivating paddy, coconuts, rubber etc, Chackochen continues to grow these, but has chosen to be a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. His wife Salimma is a teacher in chemistry at the Higher Secondary level in Pulincunnoo, near to the house. They have three children Anjaly Raisa, Amitha Eliza and Arun Joseph. All are students at the school level.
Your sojourn with them will be an experience of a typical Kerala Syrian Christian family, at its authentic best. Nelpura means granary where paddy is stored and grains for the next season are preserved. The Nelpura Heritage Home stay is a renovated structure adjoining the ancestral house of Mr. Chacko and family. The building showcases the fine features of traditional Kerala architecture and woodcarving. Dating back around 150 years, It is an ideal long-stay retreat for writers and artists.
